Vocational school for the street children of Jalapa
This year AACC in conjunction with PIEAT is constructing a vocational school for the street children of Jalapa. AACC has a representative living in Jalapa through June, 2010 who is coordinating its construction and development.
Thank you to everyone who helped make the vocational school come true … an educational opportunity for over 200 children ages 10 – 17 who have never been able to finish or attend school.
The school program includes the national curriculum for primary school from the Ministry of Education (morning hours) but in an accelerated time frame so the students can learn three years of curriculum in one year. The afternoon offers a vocational school program in collaboration with INATEC, the national vocational accreditation agency. This means upon completion of the vocational program the students will receive certification. The program includes courses in areas such as Computer training, English language acquisition; Agriculture related study, Electricity, Construction, and Mechanics.
Currently PIEAT needs $7,000 to hire local carpenters to build the school’s furniture and provide the vocational school with supplies and equipment. Please consider donating to help secure the completion of this vocational school.
