I am a mother of three sons. The oldest is 26 years old and studies medicine and surgery in Cuba. The next is 19 years old and is attending the University in Cuba to study civil engineering and agriculture. The third son is 15 years old and is the fourth grade of secondary school. The two youngest children have accompanied me and helped me work while I visit house to house and give story hours working with PIEAT for over 5 years. The work of PIEAT is very important for me because I learn much, and I help people to make a change in their lives and their communities. It is important because the program helps to protect the children at risk and brings education to the parents. We share information in the home with primary caregivers the foundation of the social and emotional development of children and how this helps the development of their family, community, and our country. This type of program helps our country because the mothers take better care of their children while they are working and the mothers can work more peacefully. Before PIEAT I worked for the Ministry of social security and with children at risk, and I was a teacher and director of a preschool for 8 years. I am also a teacher of a secondary school for over 14 years.
